Zoustar filly shoots into Guineas picture

One of the most impressive performances between the classic trials meetings at Newmarket and Newbury didn’t come in a Stakes race but in a fillies’ maiden, when Zoustar filly Star Style demolished her 9 rivals with ease. She is now 25/1 for the QIPCO 1000 Guineas on Sunday 5 May.

The renowned Bridget Fillies’ Maiden over 7f at Newmarket has been won by many Stakes performers down the years and this year’s race looked up to scratch. There was plenty of money for Star Style and she started 3/1 joint-favourite.

It didn’t take long to work out just why she was so well supported as she was soon in front under Pat Dobbs for in-form trainer Richard Hannon. It appeared her rider didn’t even need to push any real buttons for Star Style to shoot clear from 2f out and win by 5½ lengths from Bella Taslina.

Hannon wrote on his website: “She has always been very nice at home, but is a big filly so she has needed all of her 2-year-old season to come into herself and fill out. She is another exciting prospect and holds an entry for the 1000 Guineas which would not be out of the question after such a commanding performance last week.”

Star Style has been rated 97P by Timeform, which is a very significant rating for a newcomer. She is by Zoustar out of Kodiac mare Sweet Cecily, whose other progeny include Exclusively, who made a winning 2yo debut for Qatar Racing in 2019.

Star Style was bred by Mrs S. Clifford and purchased by her owner Julie Wood’s ‘Woodstock’ for 47,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale of 2021. A massive congratulations to all involved!
